Jump Start Provides Additional Dual Enrollment and Industry Based Certification Opportunities for Mangham High School Students

Partnerships with Louisiana Delta Community College, Louisiana Tech University and the University of Louisiana at Monroe and funding from Jump Start enable Richland Parish students to enroll in a wide variety of courses for which the student earns both high school and college credit.  These dual enrollment courses include the following: English 101, Certified Nurse Assistant, Business Computer Applications, Psychology, Sociology, World History, Math 101, Chemistry, Welding, Carpentry, Medical Terminology and Art.  Delhi, Mangham and Rayville High School students are currently pursuing 818 hours of college credit during the 2014-2015 school year.  In addition to the dual enrollment credits, 224 students are studying to obtain one or more of the following industry based certifications:  Microsoft Office Specialist, First Responder, Certified Nursing Assistant, NCCER Welder, NCCER Carpenter and NCCER Small Engines Technician.  According to Dr. Georgia Ineichen, Vocational Supervisor, “The merit of both the dual enrollment courses and the industry based certifications are recognized at graduation via a diploma endorsement.  Either of these endorsements adds value to the student’s diploma.  In the next three years, Richland Parish will offer a variety of pathways that will equip students with unique skill sets that prepare them for high wage, high demand jobs in our increasingly technological economy.”
